Project Title: Unemployed Youth/ Farmers Trai


Project Description

1. Describe the project. What was done, when and where did project activities take place?

The project involved organizing a comprehensive training session for local farmers and unemployed youth, focusing on enhancing their agricultural skills and knowledge. The training covered, soil testing, organic farming, poultry keeping, disease control, crop farming, pest control, modern farming techniques, prevention of non-communicable diseases and climate resilience strategies to help farmers adapt to changing environmental conditions. Additionally, the training included self-defense mechanisms against wild animal attacks, guidance on reporting incidents involving wildlife, and information on how to apply for compensation for damages caused by wildlife. Farmers were also educated on how to access the Uwezo Fund for financial support to improve their agricultural operations. Special attention was given to Women in farming.

3. Who were the beneficiaries, how were they impacted by this project, and what humanitarian need was met?

Community farmers and unemployed youth.

The farmers gained valuable knowledge and skills in agricultural practices, which are expected to improve their productivity and income.

• They also learned about financial support options available through the Uwezo Fund and women enterprise.

• The project fosters a sense of community among farmers, encouraging collaboration and knowledge sharing, which can lead to collective problem-solving and support networks.

• The training on self-defense mechanisms against wild animal attacks and reporting procedures empowers farmers to protect their crops and livestock, reducing losses and enhancing their livelihoods.

• With the knowledge of modern farming techniques, farmers are better positioned to invest in their farms, potentially leading to higher yields and food security.

Lack of proper farming skills and opportunity for self-employment were addressed.

Planned and guided the event to ensure long-term sustainability of knowledge.

1. Afri-foods-Facilitated the training sessions and equipped the farmers with modern farming technologies

2. Young professional for Development and Syngenta-Supported the training by giving farmers free training handout and donated chicken feeders

3. Kenya Wildlife service- self-defense mechanisms against wild animal attacks, guidance on reporting incidents involving wildlife, and information on how to apply for compensation for damages to agriculture caused by wildlife.

4. Uwezo fund and Women enterprise-Gave information to local farmers on ways of accessing government Fund for financial support to improve their agricultural operations
