Proposal Form

The city of Tiruchirapalli, has a population of more than a million people spread over an area of around 40 sq. kms.

This city has few institutions catering to the needs of autistic children. Maharishi Vidhya Mandir is one such school. The children now travel in rented vehicles. But this makes it very expensive and few parents can afford the cost. This project aims to buy a van for the school to transport poor autistic children who otherwise would not have access to school and treatment. In addition a portion of the funds will be used to purchase training materials and computers with special software to educate these children.

Girls from economically backward families mostly do no have the habit of using sanitary napkins, but make use of cotton or waste cloth as make shift napkins. The very few girls who do use napkins do not dispose of these in a proper manner, which constitute a major threat to the health and hygiene of the community. Unfortunately this need is not currently being addressed. The proposal is to purchase a sanitary vending machine with a built-in incinerator; and a sewing machine. The vending machine would be provided to schools for girls and the sewing machine to the local women who would make a living by stitching napkins out of the waste cloth that will be donated by Rotarians from local textile mills. Interact and Rotaract Clubs would buy napkins from the women, mark up the cost marginally to take care of maintenance of the vending machine. This would provide a livlihood for the women in the Village.
