Areas of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene, Community economic development
The objective is to create an affordable, reusable cloth based sanitary pad solution for needy girls and women, to empower women with gainful employment and additional income and reduce the environmental impact due to disposable sanitary napkins.
Beneficiary :- Under Privileged Girls and Women - This project provides for local production, distribution and sales of reusable washable sanitary cloth pads (period kit) and menstrual cups to beneficiaries
Detail Brief
The cost of commercial single use sanitary napkins in a nation like India is prohibitive and unaffordable for many. Using disposable sanitary napkins made mostly of synthetic ingredients and harmful chemicals are dangerous for health and environment. Increasing awareness of quality and affordable washable reusable cloth sanitary pads made locally will improve the health and hygiene of young menstruating girls and women, and provide employment for women plus drastically reduce pollution. Menstrual Hygiene Alliance of India estimates 12.3 billion disposable sanitary napkins (non-biodegradable) pollute the landfills in India annually, causing immeasurable long-term damage to the environment. Just picking up, segregating and sending the used napkins to the landfills are a nightmare for the unprotected sanitary workers.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
