Proposal Form

This Global Grant proposal will involve 1200 entrepreneur women in Guayaquil, a city and outer suburbs of 2.5 million inhabitants. There are approximately 500,000 persons in dire economic need floating around the city, many of whom are squatters on land without basic services, such as sufficient food availability, educational opportunities, medical clinics, and lack of financial resources to establish small businesses. Government intervention to alleviate these basic needs has been slow. Women play the key role in families of 6-7 members trying to keep family together and survive. Three Rotary Clubs--Cerro Azul, Rio Guayas, and Occidente will work closely with Hogar de Cristo, a Cooperating Organization, with considerable experience working with Rotary humanitarian grants. In addition on how to establish a business, training also involve money management, good customer service techniques, and the importance of savings usage. The thrust of the project is to provide small loans of $150 to $200 for each cycle to begin a business endeavor, such as selling food commodities, clothing, small furniture, cleaning supplies, etc. Loan repayment schedule is done on a weekly basis. The beneficiaries will be considered for additional loans after paying the loan fully at the end of a cycle, usually four months. Timeline for the completion of this project is twelve months.

Under the new leadership of Past President Priscilla Carcache, This Microcredit Global Grant (TRF# 26011) is progressing nicely. Hogar de Cristo, Cooperative Organization, and Guayaquil Cerro Azul Rotary work cooperatively to enhance job opportunities for women involved in poultry sales, pastries, soft drinks, hair dressers, etc. In addition the CO offers other family services at a low cost. Repayment of loans weekly continue to be prompt.

17-Feb-16

by David Ballesteros

This Microcredit Project is still on-going with Village Banks of up to 14 women. Project on the outskirts of the metropolitan city of Guayaquil is near Hogar de Cristo, Cooperating Organization, who provides support services and some space for the women. I, as the Primary International Contact visited the Project on February 10 and 11, 2016 and met with some of the women observing their Village Banks and was satisfied with their progress.
