Cahuide and 14 Incas are located approximately 15 km from the city of Chimbote (40 minutes by vehicle) and host more than 200 families settled in an arid area, living in poverty and engaged in traditional agricultural activities with few opportunities to improve their skills and access better-paying jobs.
The project will directly benefit 16 families composed of young people aged 17 to 32 who lack employment opportunities and skill development in new trades that would allow them to improve their income levels. They will be the pioneers in developing hydroponic crops as a healthy, eco-friendly, and innovative alternative to achieve new development opportunities. A pilot cultivation area will be promoted, managed by the Rotary Club of Chimbote, for training and dissemination of these new techniques, enabling the 16 directly benefited families to become mentors and extend their knowledge and support to a larger population in different rural areas. This project will involve providing technical and leadership skills, financial support for the implementation of hydroponic crops, and financial and commercial advisory services for promotion at agricultural fairs and distribution centers, as well as ensuring the long-term sustainability of this initiative.
Need $36,721
This project needs to receive some pledges to go to the next level. Please check the "Financing" tab to see the list of current pledges. Once the amount pledged is equal to the project budget, the status of the project will be automatically changed to "Fully Pledged". Click here to pledge support for this project.
Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
