Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: Nepal

Location: Kathmandu

Total Budget: $46,970

Areas of Focus: Disease prevention and treatment, Maternal and child health

Tilganga Institute of Ophthalmology being tertiary referral centre, many premature babies are referred, who are either born less than 29 weeks or weigh less than 1 kg. Transporting these babies are very risky as most of them are admitted in Neonatal Intensive Care ( NICU). We provide treatment ot such risky premature babies and being highly specialized treatment and our centre is one of the very few eye centres in our country for such treatment. According to our data from 2020 to 2022, we treated with 56.7% ( out of 449 babies, 133 babies required Treatment of Injection AntiVEGf and Laser therapy and out of 133, 56.7& is Laser Therapy) of babies with Laser Therapy and the equipment that we requested from Global Grant is the instrument needed for laser therapy. There is one Laser machine being used for Laser therapy during other procedures and not for ROP babies. It is being used excessively in different settings therefore, we need a proper Laser equipment, dedicated to ROP babies. Besides, this euipment is portable hence, it can be carried to different hospitals if Laser therapy is to be given in NICU set up.There is going to be free treatment available from the community hospital to the needy premature babies. Once they are identified and treated by the donated equipment.

Medical experts from Tilganga Hospital are actively involved in the design and planning of solutions. Their expertise is crucial in determining the specifications and requirements for the specialized instruments needed to enhance the diagnostic and treatment capabilities for retinopathy. This collaborative approach ensures that the solutions are tailored to the unique needs and challenges faced by the hospital.

Tilganga Hospital is committed to the ongoing success of the project. The hospital actively participates in the monitoring and evaluation processes, providing feedback and insights to fine-tune the solutions as needed. This collaborative feedback loop ensures that the implemented solutions evolve to meet the changing needs of the neonatal care unit.

This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
