Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Khamgaon

Total Budget: $45,360

Area of Focus: The environment

Rooted in Responsibility: Promoting Eco-Conscious Action

In Khamgaon, the scorching heat and scarce rainfall create significant challenges for the local community, leading to water shortages and environmental degradation. The town's high temperatures, reaching up to 45-46 degrees Celsius in May, have resulted in droughts in the past, exacerbating the water crisis. Despite government initiatives and efforts by individuals and NGOs, the impact has been limited due to various constraints.

Addressing these issues requires a concerted effort to combat climate change and promote sustainable development. A large-scale tree plantation drive, such as the proposed initiative aiming to plant 5500 trees, holds immense potential to mitigate these challenges. Trees play a crucial role in regulating temperature, conserving water, and preventing soil erosion, thereby offering numerous benefits to the community.

By applying for a global grant from Rotary International, Rotary Club Khamgaon seek support to implement this vital project. The plantation drive not only addresses immediate environmental concerns but also fosters long-term resilience and prosperity for Khamgaon. Benefits include improved air quality, enhanced biodiversity, increased water retention and a more sustainable ecosystem.

To execute the project effectively, we are partnering with the forest department to utilize their land for tree plantation. Through a formal agreement, spanning five years, we will gain access to designated areas for planting trees. This partnership not only ensures the availability of suitable land but also signifies a long-term commitment to environmental conservation.

Under the agreement, we will be responsible for planting and maintaining the trees, ensuring their sustained growth and survival. This includes activities such as regular watering, pruning, and protection from pests and diseases. By actively engaging with the forest department and local communities, we aim to foster a sense of ownership and collective responsibility towards the project.

Furthermore, this collaboration enables us to leverage the expertise and resources of the forest department, enhancing the success and impact of the plantation drive. By pooling our efforts and resources, we can maximize the benefits of tree planting, contributing to the environmental sustainability and socio-economic development of Khamgaon.

Overall, the partnership with the forest department is integral to the successful execution of the project, enabling us to access land, expertise, and support necessary for effective tree plantation and maintenance over the next five years.

The tentative budget for the overall 5 years is as under:-
