Project Description

Region: Asia

Country: India

Location: Manipur

Total Budget: $39,700

Area of Focus: Water, sanitation and hygiene

Brief Description about the project:-

Neither Khundong nor Puichi villages have any centralized and viable water schemes. Both villages have small cement ponds which are useful primarily during the monsoon season. This poses great difficulty especially for the womenfolk and girls who have to fetch water from great distances to their homes. This is at a cost of time that would otherwise be spent in useful livelihood generation activity, farming or studying.

The Solution:-

There is a perennial source (a year-round spring) in a hill above Khundong situated about 6 kms away. However, the village does not have adequate ponding or distribution facility either at the source or at the village itself. With the source being at the higher level, it is possible for water to flow by gravity to Khundong where it is proposed to have a 100,000 ltr water tank. Water from this tank will be shared to Puichi Village at a lower level (hence will flow by gravity once again). Here it is proposed to repair an existing water tank as well as connect to another tank built through the aegis of Sunbird Trust.

Note: as of July 1, 2015 there is a 5% additional support fee for cash contributions. This fee does not appear in the financials above because it does not apply if the funds are sent directly to the project account (without going through TRF, and therefore without Paul Harris credit). Clubs sending their cash contribution to TRF must be aware they will have to send an additional 5%.
