Project Description

Region: North America

Country: Mexico

Location: Juarez, Chihuahua

Total Budget: $36,000

Area of Focus: Basic education and literacy

Círculos Mágicos Matemáticos offer an innovative and practical solution based in the use of gamification, collaborative learning and mnemonics to facilitate the understanding and retention of basic mathematical operations such as addition, multiplication, subtraction, and division. Studies in educational psychology highlight the effectiveness of mnemonics in improving memory retention and recall. Researchers like Dr. John Medina, author of "Brain Rules," emphasize how memory aids can enhance learning. Gamification has been championed by researchers such as Jane McGonigal, who states that games in education can significantly boost engagement and motivation in learning environments. Additionally, organizations like the Edutopia and the Association for Educational Communications and Technology (AECT) highlight the effectiveness of these strategies in promoting active learning and improving student outcomes. Together, they represent a shift toward more engaging and effective teaching methods in contemporary education..

Implementing this methodology (Circulos Magicos Matematicos) in public schools in Schools Zone 3 is set to significantly significantly improve future assessment results. By focusing efforts on strengthening students' basic skills through the use of Círculos Mágicos, it is possible to reverse poor performance in math testing and increase the percentage of students reaching Levels II and III of math performance. Currently, only 34.5% of students in the state manage to surpass the basic level in this subject (SEP).
