Needs/Objectives

To improve the urgent problem of lack of sanitation and hygiene facilities by construction of toilets blocks with flush toilets and wash hand basins.

To train the teachers in hygiene so that they in turn can train the children in proper hygiene.

To supply training material so that the children can derive maximum early learning benefit from the trained teachers.

Where feasible, to supply the equipment and training to supplement the children's food requirements and the surrounding community with fresh produce.

The Project will advance the goal of thy area(s)of focus

By the children's access to proper sanitation

By educating the children in sanitation and hygiene

By improving the children's integration into primary education

Estimated start date of the project--1 January 2014--Estimated end date 31 December 2014

Funds will be used to:

Provide fresh running water / construction of toilet blocks / Toilets / Teacher Training

Supply equipment and training to supplement the children's food requirements

To extend the training to provide surrounding community with fresh produce

Clubs Involvement

1 Visited and planned the project. Interviewed the principals of the schools and the teachers. From this the needs list and budget was constructed.

2 The international partners clubs are D5340 and D7080. Both have visited D9370 and cooperated with clubs in the past.

3 Host sponsor will commit his/her time and expertise during the implementation of the project to ensure success.

a Obtain competitive quotes for toilet blocks and plumbing

b Undertake purchase of any equipment

c Ensure Global Grant conditions are met and timeously reported

d Liaise with International partners

e Ensure that as much publicity as possible is afforded the project.

District 5340 participants will be visiting the site, and will add to the publicity

both locally and within District 5340

District 5340 Rotary Foundation Committee has approved this Global Grant proposal and is allocating $8000. in District Designated Funds (DDF) to match the donations of District 5340 Rotary Clubs. Thanks for your efforts to make a difference for children in South Africa. The Global Grant may proceed to the application to The Rotary Foundation for approval.

The disbursement of funds is proceeding. As of today's date we are

over 50% disbursed.

The government so impressed by our volunteer training successes that

they have hired 10 of our 14 to spear-head similar programs throughout the Province.
