Ecuador is fast becoming a leader in South America in providing computer services in its school systems and integrating technology in the curriculum. However, there are still some remote areas that lack these opportunities. Two of these sites are the towns of Gualaceo in the South,Province of Azuay, and Tulcán in the north, Province of Carchi. One Hundred computers plus printers and other accessories are destined for twelve intermediate and high schools serving 3200 students from impoverished families. With the acquisition of computers, it would fill a vacuum in the school academic program. Furthermore, many of the parents of these students are immigrants working in the U.S. and Spain and this would facilitate communication with parents and children.
This would be a two year project under Rotary Future Vision with support services for staff training, maintenance and security of equipment, and dedicated computer lab space and Technician Monitors. Community members would also have access to the use of computers at convenient times and also enhance their own learning and occupational opportunities.
