The area around Akparata comprising of 20 villages with women of child bearing age, do not have access to primary care facility at this time. The areas are remote, and rural, with no roads and no access to health facilities. AMURT is building a primary care center, available 24/7 and is in need of an ambulance to transport emergency cases and post birth children in case of need in a quick and effective manner to prevent mortality. The women have participated in research for the location of the facility, are undergoing training, and train other women, do meetings with pregnant women in the villages, have set up a committee and do followup. All this will help to reduce the need for too many emergencies, but when there is one, the ambulance will help with transportation, otherwise the bicycle or nothing is the only way to get to a hospital. This is not effective and easy as the roads are not passable, and a bicycle is not good or feasible to use to transport pregnant women. This is very essential to reduce the mortality rate and help promote the health of mother and child. The MOU and other details will show the effectiveness and sustainability of the project as it is self sustaining and the agreement with the government will elaborate on the process moving forward. The rotary club has many physicians, who will assist with the outreach programs and education of pregnant women with the cooperating organization to bring about a better state of health for mothers and new born children. the cooperating organization has two operational ambulances in other parts of Ebonyi state, and knows how to operate and has statistics for sustainability and success. They conduct surveys and keep records in an orderly manner. Once the project is approved, and funds collected, the cooperating organization and the club will purchase the ambulance. The bids are available for the vehicle, and will be updated when ready to purchase. The facility is almost ready, so the ambulance will be needed asap after the end of February 2015. the timeline is only to purchase the vehicle.
