Every 5 seconds one person in our world goes blind and a child goes blind every minute. 75% of all blindness, around the world could be easily avoided. 90% of children who are blind don't go to school.
This project is to provide surgical correction and rehabilitation for 9,600 cataract blind persons, who need the same and who cannot avail the facility by themselves due to poverty and lack of accessibility for care. The project also aims towards assisting these families to be economically independent and help these patients not only with their vision but also with their self respect and honour. India has over 13 million cataract blind waiting to be operated. This project, we help the most backward people in many communities in India who are economically very weak and elderly. Blind people in India are dependent on others for their lives, especially the children in the family depriving them of any education. Blind people seldom find employment and considered a burden to the society. If their sight can be restored, they can lead a productive life and earn a livelyhood for themselves and their families. This project will be executed at Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, Chennai. This project will help thousands of economically weaker & low income group rural people to avail FREE service. |
