This project will distribute water from springs to approximately 20 villages in a dry region of Northern Bali, Indonesia. Average wage is under $2/day, many are employed at subsistence wages farming, near or below poverty line for Indonesia. Each spring will be tested for potability, then capped by Rotary as a safe water source.
Presently, village children and women walk several miles to get water, sometimes missing school.
This needy area was discovered by Chandra La Heusen of RC Eugene in 2005 (Rotary Centennial year) while there for a multi-district project delivering 1000 bicycles to orphan school children in Bali.
This project is being jointly developed by Rotary clubs in Bali (RC Bali Jimbaran), Western Australia (Armadale Neerigen Brook) and Oregon-Washington (Seaside).
It is a great example of strong international relationships across districts (Aus-Bali-USA) and multiple clubs, working toward common goals to eliminate the root causes of poverty and assist in meeting the Millenium Development Goal in a friendly yet very needy country, Indonesia.
Approximately 20 villages can receive fresh water with the funds shown. The detailed MG with costing is being prepared, and will be posted shortly. Meanwhile, we encourage you to join us in support, pledge toward this project.
