Dondaicha is a small town in the district of Dhule in Maharashtra, which is on the boarder of Gujrat and Madhya Pradesh state. This area falls on the largest tribal belts of India. Health care facilities in this area are very poor. The population of Dhule district is 1,800,000 and the same of Nandurbar is 1,400,000 out of which 50% of the people in Nandurbar and 30 % of the people in Dhule district are illiterate. The prevalence of blindness in Maharashtra is 1.99%. And since Nandurbar and Dhule being the most remote and deprived district in the state the prevalence may be more than that of the state average.
There is no Government hospital or charitable eye hospital for 3.2 million populations in and around Dondaicha. Because of the poverty large number of population cannot afford the treatment for blindness in private hospitals. They cannot do even Cataract operations.
We, Rotary club of Dondaicha through Rani Maa Saheb’s Rotary Eye Hospital & Research Center are arranging free eye diagnostic camps in various villages for tribal people. We are bringing the cataract patients in this hospital & do the operation free of cost.
We estimate to do Six Hundred and one cataract operations in the period of 1 year, for which each operation will cost us US $ 28.5715. The project will start as soon as the grant is received. |
