Hostel for Girls at Risk

The Rotary Clubs of Mbarara and New Glasgow, Nova Scotia, Canada have partnered to construct and equip a building located at the Birere Secondary School designated for use by teenage girls at risk. The purpose is to provide a safe and supportive facility and atmosphere for living, studying and training. The community has identified the need to

1.Enable 40 teenaged girls to concentrate on their studies

2.To reduce the spread of HIV/AIDS among this population

3.Reduce early marriages

4.Reduce their educational fees

This matching grant is intended to provide a toilet block, solar electric system, furnishings and equipment for the hostel, and seed money for tuition loans.
