To provide the woman and young girls living in Mazı village with an occupation so that they contribute both to their own and the region’s economy. This shall also be an example for other such regions.
Mazı village is situated close to district of Bodrum and stretches towards to Gulf of Gökova and is a typical Aegean village with its quiet beaches and unique scenery. Due to limited employment, people from Mazı generally work in Bodrum and the women weave their village’s traditional carpets to contribute to the family income. However, income from hand made carpets have considerably decreased within time. Two people weaving one carpet within 1 month do receive 1 dollar a day which is not worth the tiring times spent at the carpet loom which may also result in various health problems in the long run.
In order to eliminate such negativity and to help the local people improve different skills, Bodrum Karia Rotary Club intends to open a pattern cutting and sewing course in the building which is common property of the village and was previously a school building. The building is projected to be equipped with 8 sewing and knitting machines. After the course is completed, the machines will be for the use of the locals. Thus, they will be able to sell the products they manufacture and this will help them improve their standards and will set a successful example for other regions. In the first place, 40 ladies are projected to be trained within the scope of the Project. |
