   India - Gurgaon

Sanitation - Toilet Block

$15,884

AICB Capt. Chandanlal Special School for the blind is one of the Confederation’s Unit located in the village of Behrampur, near Gurgaon, Haryana, India. It is a co-education school. Due to poor and unhygienic conditions of the sanitation system, children do not feel comfortable and safe to use the facility which further affects their attendance and eventually their performance. Space is available for the toilets but blocks need to be created by tiling and providing fixtures & fittings.

In 2009, the school has 110 girls and boys studying in the special facilities created painstakingly for them. These children come from various parts of India — the states of Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan and Himachal Pradesh. Their age group is between 3 yrs to 18 yrs. Visually challenged girls and boys form the age of three studying in the school are provided gratis, boarding, lodging, clothing, Braille books, and all the specialised educational equipment at the disposal of the school.

The day-to-day running of the school depends heavily on donations made by their kind patrons, along with a modest fund they are able to get from the Government of Haryana.

In 1994, the school had only four classrooms. With the generous contributions from donors, they were able to expand their infrastructure to add more classrooms, a library, a computer room, and separate hostel for girls and boys.
