	D-1300    Indonesia - Waitabula Water Tanks/Toilets $25,013 The project provides 30 rainwater catchment tanks and 150 composting toilets in a very poor, dry area of West Sumba. The tanks will provide permanent water storage for 1440 people who must now walk long distances for water from meager and dirty sources. Some are so distant from water they use the water that seeps from a cut banana stem for drinking and cooking, there is none to spare for bathing and the children do not wash for months. The toilets will serve 150 families of 6 - 8 people who now use the fields behind their huts. Training has already begun on how to deal with human waste and use personal hygiene; and the village people are excited about getting these toilets.
