TB Treatment for Children

$12,842

This project intends to provide medicines and medical services for the 6-month treatment of 100 children afflicted with Primary Koch’s Infection, an early manifestation of Pulmonary Tuberculosis, in the town of Calauag, Quezon, Philippines. If left untreated, the child the infection will develop into full-blown pulmonary tuberculosis, a deadly and debilitating disease.

The project will take 9 months to complete, including the 6-month treatment period and the purchase and distribution of the medicines.

Comment from the Red Springs Rotary Club Partners:

This project's importance is well pointed out by the host club. This disease is not only debilitating, but contagious and the problem of 100 children with active tuberculosis can be overwhelming to the community and families involved. These children will be exposing the disease to other children, health care workers, school and class contacts as well as community members. It is essential to treat these children no only for the benefit of the children but the secondary benefit of the communities involved. We see this benefit and intend to support this project as finances become available.
