   Philippines - Calauag

Bicycles for Poor Students

$11,632

Public high schools in the town of Calauag, Quezon, Philippines are scattered covering large areas. School children have to walk to and from school, as much as two (2) to even ten (10) kilometers. They walk for hours daily (as much as 2 hours in many cases). They walk even if it is raining or with a very hot sun beating at their backs.

This project intends to provide bicycles to 285 high school students who live very far from their school. These students come from very poor families and their parents cannot provide for their basic needs in school. The bicycles will shorten the travel time to and from the school leaving them more time to study and do household chores.

The project can be completed in three (3) months – from the purchase of the bicycles to the distribution to all students.
