Diaper machine

$11,520

The purpose of this project is to provide funds for the acquisition of semi-automatic diaper machine for the in-house production of diapers for use of 80 homeless elderly people who live at the “Raiar do Sol” asylum and for children whose parents are in prison. The “Raiar do Sol” Asylum is assisted by Asfar Anchieta Association, an entity formed by the wives of the male members of Rotary Club of Sao Paulo-Anchieta and other female associates. Besides a number of permanent activities developed by Asfar to assist those elderly people and children in their needs, they also produce the diapers used by them on a continuing basis.

The current monthly supply for the asylum amounts to 2000 units, which correspond to the production capacity currently available, whereas the demand amounts to about 3000 units. In addition, the fact that the existing equipment is rather old, causes frequent maintenance requirements with their associated costs, low productivity, namely loss of material, and difficult operation.

On the other hand, the imbalance between the demand and the current output generates higher costs for the assisted entities, as the in-house production is much cheaper. Actually the only cost factor for the in-house production is the material, as the other cost components result from voluntary services.
