Southern Districts (D.I. Khan, Lakki Marwat, Tank and Karak), with a population of 4 million, is the dried semi-Desert and far flange areas from Peshawar where the literacy ratio is 15%. The provision of drinking water is by donkey carts from far flung areas or nearby towns or women carries pitchers on their heads to carry water for their needs from far away water reservoirs which is unhygienic for human health. This project addresses the most common and needy cause of clean drinking water.

One large size community hand pump will benefit 80 households and average number of beneficiaries in one family 8 – 10 person. So individuals benefiting from all 30 hand pumps will be more 24000 individuals. Survey has been done for the said project and ready to be implemented.

Participation and plans will be collaborated with the concerned community and the appraisal, for chalking out development plans and strategy. Rotary will involve elders, political leaders, social workers, teachers and people from all walks of life for project planning and designing. It will be the project of “For the People, by the people, of the people”. The project will be completed in a successful manner in order to run and maintain each community hand pump; we had plain to train skilled operations to make the project sustainable. We will arrange comprehensive training programs for such operators. These operators will be responsible for the smooth operation and running of the hand pumps.

The Rotarian Club of Hayatabad, Peshawar kept regular liaison with the local community. The club members will visit regularly the project area and will be monitoring the whole the project till the end. The Club will contribute approx. 2000 USD for the smooth process flow. Keeping in view the need for more financial contribution, it was wished to contribute more, but due to the social and financial conditions of the Province, it is hard to put on more.

The current situation of our province is that we have faced the war against terrorism and thousands of people had been dead in the current catastrophic suicidal attacks. Therefore, the businesses are camouflaged in the recent currents and promotional developments of the society and works have been reduced to negligibility.
