Bangladesh a country approximately one hundred thirty million people occupies one of the most densely-populated areas. About one percent of total population is blind. Added to this another 60000 go blind every year. Main causes of blindness are malnutrition, family food habits, lack of education inadequate eye care, lack of treatment facilities and vitamin A deficiency. Most of the victims of such blindness are children aged 1-6 years. In Sylhet division out of estimated 8.2 million population 3.2 million are children; about 2400 children are blind and another 100,000 children are visually impaired due to refractive errors and other eye problems. It is estimated that around 85% of blind people live in rural areas. Up to 80% of blindness is considered to avoidable because it could be cured or prevented if resources could be made available.

To work for the visually handicapped people BNSB Moulvibazar laid down the hospital foundation stone in 1983, In 1986 Moulvibazar BNSB Eye hospital has started its journey with 10 beds and gradually extended up to 40 bedded including 7 cabins specialized eye hospital.

In order to run the hospital activity and serve the poor, hospital need more fund to give the subsidy and render more service among the poor patients.
