	D-1736    India - Chandigarh Literacy Project $32,850 “To instill excellence in education through innovative training methodologies for the benefit of underprivileged children”. It is planned that under privileged children will be provided with a computer and learning software to improve the learning and cognitive abilities. They will be given exposure to a multimedia encyclopedia/educational CDS and nursery rhymes. These 50 centers will also be provided libraries- a library bookcase with 4 shelves filled with 300 story books. This project of RC Chandigarh will be launched at 50 centres operating in poor areas and slums and will benefit more than 2000 under privileged ‘never gone to school’ children this year. This will go a long way in improving the quality of education to these children not just this year but year after year. The children study at these centers for a year and are then mainstreamed: admitted to the regular schools and new children are enrolled. Thus the project is expected to benefit children from poor economic backgrounds studying at these centers for the next many years.
