 There are 26 small and large natural streams located among five zones of Islamabad, yields 37 inches hill torrent/rain water annually which gets polluted by the waste water. The polluted rain water percolates to the underground water reserves and transfers physical, biological and chemical contaminants to it. This water is the prime source of water for the residents of the area who consider it fresh and pure hence consume it directly. However according to the PCRWR 74% of the domestic water supply to Islamabad city got severe contaminations while examined. Polluted natural stream are biggest source of underground water pollution. The proposed project is to be initiated not only for the Natural streams restoration it will indirectly cope with the sever contamination of ground water, air pollution, control over the epidemic spread and also provide clean environment to the general public, It will also restore the natural beauty of streams such as biodiversity, wild life, flora and fauna. It The time for completion of the work for Phase I, Stage I will be one year commencing from the signing of the MOU. However the timeframe can be extended as agreed mutually.
Stream Facts:
Creek lies within the Stream System of Margalla Hills, which is part of the Central Fatimah Jinnah Park. The drainage area for Creek is about 5km in linear length. The stream originates at Margalla Hills on the grounds of the Air and Naval Complex and flows south east through the northern part of Islamabad until it joins the Nala Lei.
Restoration Goals:
To eliminate sewage contamination and reduce stream bank erosion and sedimentation, enhance and establish forested riparian buffers, improve water quality and stream stability, and protect and enhance wildlife habitat.
