Swabalamban Self reliance

$25,000

Villages of West Bengal and urban slums of thickly populated Kolkata are full of migrant population which lives on barely $1/day. Unemployment amongst young population is on the rise both in urban & rural poor. On a survey done by Rotary Club of Saltlake Metropolitan it was found that most of the families do not have any earning member and they in turn cannot send their children to schools and do not even get two square meals a day. This leads to nutritional deficiency, malnutrition & ill health. On the other hand unemployed youths with their energy gets diverted towards the unsocial activities leading to alteration of social fabric and increased criminal activities.

The Project involves – providing cycle vans to rural poor youths who shall utilize them to ferry people and vegetables to City markets. They in turn can easily earn about INR 4000/month (less than $100), which shall help to put children back in school, take care of their nutritional needs and bring peace to the elderly family members of each youth. Such young entrepreneurs shall lead an honourable life. Crime rates will decrease substantially.

This project is going to benefit 100 families of 6 each totaling 600 people for years to come. The Cycle rickshaws will be given to unemployed urban poor youth who will be provided a comprehensive package including specially built cycle van with extra space to keep mineral water/newspaper for additional income & health insurance for whole family for whole family for Rs. 1 lakh and Accident coverage of Rs. 1 lakh and Vehicle insurance and maintenance cost. This will help them to earn about Rs 8000 – Rs. 10000 (i.e. $150-200) per month.

The project shall be completed in 12 months from receipt of grant funds.
