This project is aimed at giving laboratory equipment to the Lords Meade Vocational College in Njeru, which is about 5km from Jinja town. The Vocational College was set up in 2002 with the aim of providing secondary school education (ages 13-19+) for the less fortunate students. The current students include many children orphaned by AIDS, who are supported by the Tofta Educational Trust, which is the Foundation Body of the Vocational College. The College aims to have a student population of 500 students, both boys and girls.
There is no free secondary education in Uganda, which results in many financial disadvantaged students dropping out due to the relatively high cost of school fees – about $120 per term for boarding, and $55 for day students, with 3 terms a year.
The laboratory equipment will enable the 400 students to be better trained in chemistry and biology, at Uganda National Examination Board (UNEB) “O” (Ordinary) level.
The Rotary Club of Jinja will provide: transportation of the equipment, supervision and regular reports of the project. All of which are valued at US $750. |
