The project is to construct rain water cisterns with filters for families in small pueblos in the rural area outside of Santa Rosa de Lima, El Salvador.
Surface water in the area is usually unsafe and unreliable in the dry season and wells are generally impractical or unaffordable due to the small scattered population and depth and availability of subsurface resources.
The families benefiting from the cisterns provide significant labor and a small financial commitment and are required to participate in six training sessions covering use, care and sanitation.
The project is in partnership with a community group associated with the local Catholic parish. |
