Pediatric Chemotherapy Centre

$42,925

Cancer is one of the number one causes of non-accidental death in children. Cancer affects people at all ages with the risk for most types increasing with age. Cancer caused about 13% of all human deaths or in other words about 7.6 million deaths worldwide in 2007.

A bold initiative to provide treatment and health care facilities to affected Children has been envisaged by Rotary Bangalore Southwest (RBSW). RBSW intends to start in partnership with Rangadore Memorial Hospital (setup under the aegis of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham Charitable Trust), Bangalore, a Pediatric Chemotherapy facilities for children from economically weaker sections.

How serious is the threat of Cancer in children in India?

The incidence of childhood cancer in India is around 150 cases per million children per year. 15% of all cancer cases in India are seen in children below 15 years of age. If proper treatment is given at the right time, 90% of these cases can be cured.

Why Pediatric Chemotherapy Centre?

Chemotherapy is the most preferred treatment for children suffering from cancer. But given the high costs involved, pediatric chemotherapy treatment is beyond the reach of parents from economically weaker sections. Therefore Rotary Club of Bangalore Southwest has recognized this critical gap and hence proposes to setup Pediatric Chemotherapy Centre with 3 chemotherapy chairs and 2 beds and all necessary medical equipments and infrastructure in phase I.

The center would be set up in association with Rangadore Memorial Hospital (setup under the aegis of Sri Sringeri Sharada Peetham Charitable Trust), Bangalore at their premises in Bangalore. The estimated cost of the phase I of the project is Rs. 18.5 lakhs (USD 41,000). The centre will provide the treatment to such (from economically weaker sections) children suffering from various types of cancers at an affordable cost.
