   Philippines - Davao City, Mindanao

Aid to School for the Blind.

$13,450

Davao School And Rehabilitation Center For The Visually Impaired is in Talomo, Davao city, Philippines. This school is committed to the concept of making the blind useful and normal members of society through skill training, education and sports. There are currently sixty five boys and girls in attendance between the ages of six and fourteen years of age.

After consultation with the School Principal we have recently identified two pupils with special needs. Niki is blind and her eye problem is such that it cannot be handled here in Mindanao. We need $1260 to fly her and an attendant to Manila and have specialist diagnosis. Her eye condition may be treatable.

Ali has congenital cataracts and heart disease. Without treatment his life expectancy is less than four years. We need to get him to a cardiologist for specialist diagnosis. The cost? $2200.

The school has further problems because a foreign group which was providing financial aid has now substantially reduced its support. The balance of $11790 would go a long way feed all of the children in the school for the next year as well as providing some further basic needs for them.

A week or so back we had an early Christmas party for the kids from The School For The Blind. Each child received a branded pair of training shoes, while this was not financed via the matching grant it is of interest to the matching grant participants.
I had the opportunity to see Ali the child who had heart surgery fit and well and enjoying himself. I have uploaded photos of the party and of Ali and myself.
Regards,
Scott
