   Cyprus - Limassol

Minibus for Cancer Association

$42,279

This 15 seat minibus would collect sufferers from the out-lying villages around Limassol and bring them to treatment from the association and also take people to Nicosia for chemotherapy each day (only available centre on the island).

The Cancer Patients association currently has a very old mini bus which acts as a lifeline for sufferers and their families.

It meets this need but it is now regularly breaking down and so is causing distress when it doesn't appear.

Collecting people from the villages around Limassol is a real need as public transport to and from the village communities is so limited in Cyprus.

Status and Progress Information

Completed

This project is completed. Project listed for the 2011-12 Rotary Year.

The Matching Grant application number from TRF is #16508.

The TRF Staff in charge of this grant is Stephen Copek ( stephen.copek@rotary.org).

The Cancer Patients Association will provide reciprocal support for our Rotary events during the year. We have set up a working party with the association which includes the president and chairs of the PR and TRF committees and the organising secretary and PR/events manager from the association.

They will be holding a number of community events including a spring/Easter fair and May day flower festival where we will have a stall.

Our main fund raiser is a gala ball. They will encourage their volunteers and supporters (600 people) to help and attend our event.

We will hold joint publicity events, the flagship of which is proposed to be Rotary Club of Limassol Berengaria Cosmopolitan club handing over the keys to the minibus to PASYKAF on national TV. WE hope to have senior representatives of Rotary as well as local dignitaries present.
