Strengthening the Eye Project

$28,439

To provide high quality eye care to the rural poor of Kanchipuram, Tiruvallur and Chittoor districts, Rotary Club of Madras Fort started the project “Kannoli-Vision Saver” at Sankara Eye Hospital, Pammal, Chennai. To strengthen the eye project, we need one Operation Microscope, the surgical equipment and one Topography, the diagnistic equipment. This project can be got done in a maximum period of 2 / 3 months.

How will it meet the needs of the community? Of an estimated 45 million blind persons (Visual Acuity < 3/60) in the world, 7 million are in India. 2 million new cases of cataract are added every year. The national goal is to reduce the prevalence of blindness from 1.4 % to 0.3% by developing increased accessibility to eye care services and improving medical & surgical management. Rotary Club of Madras Fort through the Project “Kannoli-Vision Saver” has performed 1,38,221 FREE cataract surgeries with IOL since 1994. All the operated patients are now able to get good vision & attend to their personal & family requirements comfortably. This project will help thousands of economically weaker & low income group rural people to avail FREE service.
