Medical Unit Equipment

$40,000

1. This project will provide funding for the diagnostic instrumentation and equipment for an operational mobile medical unit which will be used to medically examine women primarily for cervical cancer, perform sample analysis and provide results that very same day. This proposed mobile medical unit will also provide treatment for women with minor gynecological disorders. This project’s focus to procure the instrumentation and equipment of the mobile medical unit.

2. This project targets impoverished to low-income women, ages primarily 35-45, living in the rural areas surrounding Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. The vast majority of these women do not have ready access to appropriate medical facilities and also have very limited financial resources to test for cervical cancer and other related disorders. The current mortality rate for women in this age group is 13.6%. Early detection and treatment will prevent many needless deaths from cervical cancer and will keep families intact. This project will be manned by physicians from the Department of Medicine, Universidad Autonoma de Baja California, Mexico.

3. The project area is located very close to the USA / Mexico Border with host and international partners in very close proximity, in the cross-border cities of Calexico, CA and Mexicali, Baja California, Mexico. This project requires frequent meetings between the host and international participants to confirm the project’s objectives, by actively monitoring implementation and ongoing operations. A committee of host and international partners will jointly supervise the ongoing project to its completion, insuring the program’s objectives.
