Vision Restoration

Vision restoration and facial reconstruction is and will continue to be the thrust of this project. Funds will directly support a comprehensive ophthalmic and facial plastic surgical team working in Guatemala. The team, led by Asa Morton, MD, has made 9 trips into Guatemala over as many years. Funds will be used to provide equipment and supplies for this team with many well documented success stories. This project will focus on a very remote area of the Guatemala Highlands. Tejutla received there first medical team last year and the need was profound. That team did not include vision restoration capability but reported hundreds of cases of patients blind from cataract. Blindness in these remote areas is directly associated with a significant decrease in life expectancy. This focused effort will have a profound effect on the general population health of this remote village. | | |
