   India - Arkula

Rural Dev, Farming Equip

$13,000

The grant of $13,000 will be used to purchase farm equipment to assist the farmers of Arkula village located in the outskirts of Mangalore City in Karnataka State, India. Agriculture has been the main activity of the region for decades. Recently, due to soil erosion, shortage of labor and other problems in the area, the farmers and their families are resorting to the lucrative but unhealthy Beedi (Poor man’s cigarette) rolling activities in their houses where the entire families are exposed to the toxic fumes.

To prevent further deterioration, Belthangady Rotary Club in Dist 3180 proposes to provide tools of mechanization for agriculture tilling and soil restoration for a $13,000 Matching Grant Project to bring back the farmers from their Beedi rolling activities.
