Safe Drinking Water

$70,000

The Matching grant is to provide a compleat water purification system to supply safe water for an island village of 2000 Inhabitants off the coast of the Negapattinam District in india.

The village had lost their water supply because of the Tsaminni in December of 2004 and have had to carry all water but boat from the mainland to the island ever since. A new complete water purification system will be built in Escondido California by the Pure-O-Tech company and installed there with the cooperation of the Salem Centennial Rotary club and District 2980 who will over see the care of the system once installed.

The system will provide safe water that will be up to WHO standards and remove not only the salt but all other chemicals that can hurt the health of the people.

This Matching grant is already funded by the Escondido Sunrise RC, The Valley Center RC, the Salem Centennial RC, the related Districts and outside donations of $38,500.

District 5340 Matching Grants Report for June 6 indicates that that the last report accepted by The Rotary Foundation for this project was received March 26, 2007.

The intake to the system had to be modified to prevent salt water from coming into the system. So, the finalization of this project was delayed until a month ago. Art McCullough indicated that a final report has been prepared and is being submitted by the Host Club.
