Training for 10 Teachers

$20,714

The Pinetown Rotary Club is deeply involved in uplifting the Creches and Pre-schools of Pinetown South (an area deeply improverished and ridden with AIDS). They are currently working with 23 such Pre-schools, but the need is far greater. The average school has about 75 children and "graduates" about 20 mentally and physically prepared children into the formal education system each year. A typical uplifted creche/pre-school will have one teacher with level 1 qualifications, another with level 4 qualifications(introductory to formal education), and appropriate playground equipment and eductional aids. This project will uplift 5 schools to this level so that they qualify for Welfare Services Grants (from the government) thus enabling them to become self-sustaining and continue the program of upliftment. Specifically, the project provides for training five teachers to level 1, training five teachers to level 4, providing 20 mini-courses (first aid, bookeeping, HIV/AIDS, etc), and providing 30 items of playground equipment and various teaching aids and educational toys.
