Project Description Country: USA Location: Escondido, CA Total Budget: $7,000 Areas of Focus: Basic education and literacy, Economic and community development Activity Type: Community Development: General Summary: The project will support youth development and education throughh workforce skills development and High School Equivalency and Diploma Completion in Escondido, California. The Escondido Education 'COMPACT' is a community based organization formed in 1989 by key leaders of the Escondido Union and Escondido School Districts, and the Escondido Chamber of Commerce. COMPACT is committed to providing innovative youth (14-24) development and youth workforce development programs including leadership and youth workforce development, violence prevention, and health-safety-and well being programs for under served and high-risk youth. COMPACT federal and state funding decreased sharply in 2016. This District Grant will continue our support from 2016-17 and to 20147-18 and help COMPACT to provide services to underserved and at-risk youth. While our grant will not make up for the short fall of government funds, it has and will continue to help fill gaps while additional government funding is applied for and received. Club members will continue to tutor and mentor students and participate in Job Shadow Day at members' places of employment. Club members will also participate in COMPACT and Rotary sponsored community service days. Students are also recognized for trimester scholastic and leadership awards by our Club.
