Rotary EClub of San Diego Global wants to award 7 scholarships totally $5000 to qualified students continuing their college education the school year 2022-23 in Guatemala. These students have proven their worth as their recently superior GPAs show: 87, 88, 86, 87, 97, 90, and 77, in spite of Covid 19 infections, family food insecurity, economic chaos and domestic violence.
They are the first in their respective families to finish high school and attend the first year and 1/2 of college. The funds will go to admission fees and tuition for the next year. Other contributions to their education, including internet access, transportation, English classes and books, will be supplied from a group of women who are members and friends of RECGSD.
Five students are attending the Universidad Rafael Landivar in Antigua, four studying business administration, one studying social work. Two are attending the Universidad Mariano Galvez de Guatemala in Guatemala City, studying engineering.
Guatemala is slowly getting their economy back to normal. These students had a thriving tourism business before the pandemic. They will, no doubt, bounce back with the advantage of a college education, creating a positive future for themselves, their families and their community. They will help build Guatemala's middle class being the future leaders in business, engineering and free democracy.
